Looming Elections

Okay, I don't know what is happening but apparently, the links at the sidebar have disappeared and I have yet to figure out how to put them back again.

Anyway, I shall sort that out later. I am waiting in anticipation for another 2 rounds of extended weekend, though with the looming general elections, which by the way I will be down for duty, it won't be a complete extended weekend.

Oh yes, adding on to my duty, I will be doing the counting. Yes, very big ah, the duty. One wrong count and the opposition may win. But hey, with the expected tough fight (and lorries with loudhailers installed going round in mostly heartland areas), it will be a daunting task counting the votes. It's okay, I take it all in my stride. It's also a learning experience, being in the heart of it all.

At the end of the day, in the event of a recount or a really long night, I just hope I can make it back home in one piece and not too late at night. I am scared. I heard they will give me pocket money like a small token of appreciation like $50 or something, I don't know. I'm just scared of this new experience because so far, I had only voted once and it was already nerve wrecking :S

Anyhoo, to me politics is politics. Question is, are they able to deliver? No matter who wins, I only know that they cannot give 100% of what they have promised, whether they are the ruling party or the opposition party.  It's not because they can't but they also have to be realistic like some things we can have little control over them. But it's just a matter of how much trust the people have in  you to make things better for them so that the country will be a safe and comfortable place to live in. Nobody wants to live in a society where everything is falling apart and everywhere you go, there is bound to be riots and other forms of restlessness.

They can promise us the moon and the stars but let's face it. We can't have too high expectations as well. There must be some sort of balance though of course just like life, nothing is ever easy. Seriously, there is no point in drumming hatred towards the opposing party. You just have to know for yourself who is able to provide most for the nation because after all, this is an opportunity for you to make yourself clear as to who you want to represent you and to bring forth matters that concern you or the majority of the people.

That's why I don't get this trashing of either the ruling party or the opposition party. Otherwise we are no better than other countries who treats politics as a joke and for personal gains. It's just so quack, like reading newspapers or surfing porn during the parliamentary briefings. And who suffers? The nation.

For me, I just have to stay in a hotly contested area and I really do not know the fate of my GRC because the opposition party has got themselves a very powerful man, who had previously defeated the ruling party. It is a huge gamble on their part but they are so determined to win over our GRC that they would rather put their political life on the chopping block.

Personally, I think neither of them is perfect. I can never forget my run ins with the main GRC office regarding the payment for the outstanding conservancy fees. I feel that it's too high and I had problems paying the outstanding bills and without any sympathy, they slapped me with a court order. They didn't let me off that easily despite my repeated visits. No matter what, I still had to pay and pay I did with a lot of struggle and it didn't matter that the housing board wrote them a letter of appeal on my part. Their letter got ignored and I had to just take my time paying and kept pushing back the date to do the admin work just so that I don't have to pay cold hard cash for this house as monthly payments.

But am I going to use this example as a huge consideration as to who I want to vote? I don't know. They may have helped many other people in this constituency which I may not know off. To this people, they have made a huge impact. I only know that no matter how much they want to help the people, bottom line is, they want people to help themselves too. We cannot be too reliant on the government and expect them to do this or that for us.

I don't know but like I said, I don't want to be too caught up with this frenzy because as I've said earlier, no matter what, they cannot please everyone and they cannot deliver a 100% of what they have promised. So people, vote carefully.

Birthday Gathering & House Hunting

Last week, I celebrated a friend of mine's belated birthday together with another friend at her condo. Sadly, this would be the last time we would hold the celebration at her place because she has finally managed to sell off her condo unit after one year of looking for a buyer. Mostly we used the swimming pool facilities although the two of us didn't swim at all but just chill under the shade. We brought home cooked food and I really appreciated my friend for doing this for us, thinking about how the young son of a friend of us would love the swimming pool for kids. She is so selfless and kind to her friends and I'm truly blessed to have her in my life.  While one was selling off the house, the other friend was on the verge of getting a dream house for herself and her young son. In life, we have many priorities and things to look forward to. Each of our dreams and aspirations are different from one another, like for me, getting a house is not a priority at the moment.  ...

A Reminder to the Living

Recently, we lost our former President when he passed away at the age of 92. He was known to have his heart for the people although those who worked closely with him couldn't actually picture him as that for he was a taskmaster when it came to work. He did his own narratives and do the best that he could as he knew where he came from and wanted to make good out of his life.  He showed that the circumstances that we are in can't stop us from going far in life. We should continue to focus on our actions, has strong dedication and when things get difficult, look at the bigger picture and understand why we are here. Ultimately, we should all be working towards the purpose we have in mind which makes things easier to cope. Thank you for helping the Singaporeans especially those who needed help most. You would always be the people's President. On the other spectrum, a young child had also lost his life. A few of my colleagues witnessed the events which unfolded in front of...
