10 Quirky Things About Me

I haven't been writing recently but that is about to change, I promise! My life was all over the place trying to cope with the new changes and demands recently but it is starting to fall into place. So I thought why not make it a little interesting with some quick info about me here. Ok, disclaimer, my life isn't as fantastic as most social media people but oh well, they are still quirks or facts about me, whether you like it or not, haha.

Here you go, 10 things about me list.

1. I am into the the Shadowhunters series. They are human-angel  hybrids bent on killing the demons while being loggerheads with people not of their kind, mainly the downworlders like vampires and warlocks. The time I got the books from the young adult fiction section, I felt like a hundred pair of eyes were looking at this old lady browsing through the section to find the book. If you read the books, yes I'm a Malec fan.

I also follow the tv series currently showing in America, and they're both a league of their own although since it's based on the books, they do take some critical elements that make fans go crazy. I am also a fan of Magnus (one half of the Malec) not because he is in a relationship with a male Shadowhunter, but he's such an endearing and colourful character having lived through the centuries and being involved in many adventures and misadventures, despite having a dark background where his father is a Greater Demon and Prince of Hell.

2. I like to watch make up youtube and despite watching many makeup tutorials, mine always look like some kid applied make up on my face. But despite my non talent in this, somehow I will always spare a bit of time on make up before work, so that I look made up. Never mind two hours later, I will look like a mess again.

3. The only places I shop for things is at Papermarket and Made with Love. They are both craft stores with their own specialties despite selling mainly the same things, imported from overseas. Honestly, they're not cheap but I try to keep it lean. I use their supplies to make my crafts which I then sell so I kinda recuperate back some money as well. This lead me to the next thing.

4. I run two online shops selling handmade papercrafts and as much as I know makeup stuffs, I also know what's new in the papercrafting world as well, but for both, I only follow what interests me.

5. I dislike spending money on food coz they can be so ex if you add it all up but now that I am working at a place where the people mostly buy food for lunch, I cannot be a hermit. But I also have to keep it lean. I try not to spend beyond $2.50 on some days. Speaking of food..

6. I like western, korean and japanese food (but no sashimi or tuna belly for me, please..let's keep it real but not so real). I know I am Malay and Malay food can be delish as well but they can be pretty unhealthy.

7. Guys who look like geeks with their specs but have sculpted biceps, is a physical attraction for me. Don't ask me why. Currently there's one such guy at gym and I cannot. I really cannot. But I'm not one who like every single person like that. I like those with a quiet demeanour and not like showy off types.

8. I suck at conversation with guys. I know most girls talk to guys like they're such good friends. Mild flirting is sometimes included, which I could tell when they converse. So there is no way you will see me talking to that guy or whichever guys at the gym every Sunday. Or anywhere else for that matter.

9. I wake up almost two hours or even 3 hours earlier every weekday before work to make customised orders. I do sometimes wish I could sleep longer but time passes by quite quickly actually. I know that life begins when at the break of dawn, I can hear people taking the bus and tapping their ez link cards.

10. As much as I love cats, I cannot go beyond touching their fur, gently of course, after one time a siao or crazy cat grabbed my wrist with extended claws leaving deep scars. I love those fat rotund ones though. As long as they don't scratch.

I know it's quite boring but I tried to make it a little interesting as well, haha. Thanks for reading..and surviving through!

A Trip to Sentosa for the 12 Zodiacs Light Exhibition

When I was in primary school, I remembered taking the ferry to Sentosa. It was after the PSLE and went on this excursion. If you had been to Sentosa back in the days, you would remember the iconic terminal. Now we can even walk to Sentosa via the boardwalk and it's free. I'm not sure for how long so while it's still free, why not just walk. You can take the lrt train and pay, I think $3.00, or take the bus down from Vivocity, but best is to walk. And you get to stop and take a picture like this one below.

Or on the travellator, lol.

Once inside, you still have to walk to get to the exhibition area but we took a bus down the beach from the terminal first.  Before we viewed the various zodiac exhibitions that looked like oversized Chinese lanterns, were greeted by these pretty dangling stars. Well, it's quite a money saver, combining it with the upcoming Valentine's Day.

The lantern displays (I shall call them that) looked really nice against the dark skies and of course, no touching allowed and there were barricades around them. Good for people like me with itchy hands, lol.

Family of cows..or maybe they're not, I'm not sure

The iconic dragon zodiac

I was born in the year of the rooster. My family may drive me nuts but I still love them :)

We got hungry pretty fast and we already planned on going to Marry Brown fast food restaurant from Malaysia. The prices are reasonable and if you're used to going to McDonald's, it's just next door. Frankly, save your money. They jacked up the price like nobody's business. Still can't get over the fact, a chococone is around $2 plus. O M geeness.

Do you know that there are several Merlion? One of them is in Sentosa. On this day, it became the backdrop to a light show.

A wefie is a must, no matter the light situation

Rows and rows of lanterns.
Overall, I like how Sentosa has this yearly event where you actually have a reason to come down to see and not having to spend so much money. Honestly over the years, it kinda lost its spark, except for the Universal World, which I die die must come back and finish the rides, haha. It is still a nice place to go with the family and just perhaps, chill on the beach like how my friends and I used to do in the past. Those were the days. Now we just do pot luck at her new condo, haha. Talk about saving money.

Hope you like this post and thanks for coming!

Coping with New Workplace Demands and Getting My Life Together

Hey, I'm back!! I'm trying to get my life together because I have been so busy and tired having to deal with new waking hours, new work culture and new job scope. Yes, I actually started my work at a new posting in HQ and it's been nothing but work all the way as I try to learn as much as I can from my colleague who is going to retire. Honestly this will be a very busy period for us as each cluster will submit their budget proposal and my job is to download the fund to them based on the proposal. However it's easier said than done and there's many steps involved which requires checking whether the account has existed and if not, to create those that are new, so that I am able to transfer the budget.

There are times when I thought about why do I even get involved in this. Like my mum said, I used to deal with just one school and now I have to deal with multiple schools. But I require new challenges and once you have reached a point that you feel you are not moving or progressing, you're not going to enjoy your work very much. Also, it's difficult too when people get too reliant on you.

But honestly, I learnt a lot from my previous workplace. I felt that this was where I was groomed the most. It's also up to you whether you want to learn or you don't want to learn. Some people are like, this is not my job, so why should I learn or they're giving the excuse they're too busy or it's too hard. I've learnt from the start to help people when they require help and in a way, I help myself too as I pick up new skills. You can always go back to your job later on, I mean work will never be finished when you're working in office anyway. Once you're done with job A, job B will come in. I mean that's what you're being paid for as well too. Not paid for shaking legs, haha.

I guess many people are also in a way thankful for my help judging from the number of farewell gifts I received, haha. Life is soooo crazy that I only have the time to unwrap the gifts and store them away last Sunday. Even then I still managed to catch up with my old friends last Saturday, first at her condo, and then at a nearby shopping mall, to celebrate the birthday of my friend's son.

So how am I coping with the work here? I don't regret coming here and at first I felt a tinge of loneliness and although I have not completely overcome it, I just keep myself busy with work. Lunch time, I usually lunch in because I don't really have friends to go out with. At the same time, it's also good in a way I don't have lunch buddies because it will be hard for me to spend so much on food. It's not like I'm holding a managerial post which pay more so I can afford on more expensive lunch. I try to keep it at $2 plus and it will be better if I can lower it further but I will work on it. It's already good enough because unlike in school, I'm surrounded by places to eat like the nearby shopping mall. So the tendency to spend at least $4.00 on lunch is highly likely.

I have to eat anyway because I hate it when my stomach grumbles when my colleague is trying to teach me something, lol. Good thing there's free supplies of biscuits and milo packs so I can also have something to eat when the hunger pang strikes. I usually just eat one biscuit from a pack and top up water unless I'm seriously hungry and eating one is still like eating air like that, haha.

Transport wise, yah this is also something I have to grapple with. The whole train and bus journey costs $1.45 each day and I try to cut the costs down by relying on transfer rebate because I always have to buy groceries when I get home from work. So if I can keep it to the window period of 45 minutes, I don't have to pay the full price of 70 over cents when I go back home.

Either way, lunch and transport money will sure go up so I have to work harder and smarter in managing my money and also making money to be able to sustain. So even if I have to wake up even earlier to complete my online shop orders in time before getting ready for work, so be it. Although recently I have to make multiple trips to the craft stores to buy my supplies, I also try to keep it lean although I do make one or two mistakes in my purchases. Like I try to think carefully what I should buy or whether I should buy what I was holding on to by analysing how many projects can be used with it, just because I like a few things from the sticker sheet, it's quite hard to let go, lol.

Okay, gotta sleep now and I hope I will be able to make more progress in terms of getting my life together again and staying on top of the game in terms my new work.
