Of Rice and Food Wastage

Last time I remembered a second helping of rice was like...pfft..absolute nothing. A third helping then I was absolutely full and satisfied. So just one fine day, I decided to cut down on rice. To me, it is about less is more. You don't need much to be fully satisfied as long as you are enjoying your food and not just gulping it down, no matter how hungry you are.  I know people completely cut off rice from their diet. But people like me just can't, haha. So the next best thing is to usually to cut down on rice intake which means no second helping and not to have much of it. But my mum always complain I can't finish my rice and that the rice will cry blah blah..and a lot of people can't afford rice..so you know, I had to finish the rice compared to the last time when I would proportion part of it and not eat them. So instead of wasting it, she will cut down on the rice but you know, mums are mums, especially if I don't eat during the day and merely snack on biscui...

To Hell with Weighing Scale

I give up. The weighing scale hasn't been giving me the number that I want. It still shows that I have put on weight. But I don't get it. Ok fine, I acknowledged I ate more than I should the last couple of months but I have been a good girl and been following through with my exercise routines and eat lesser. So where did I go wrong?!! Honestly, at first I felt like such a quack like it's so obvious I put on weight when my current clothes seemed tighter. But now, for the last two weeks, I seriously thought that I might have lost the extra weight and my clothes seemed better fitting. But the scale this afternoon. Still showed no change. Infact, it showed more! What the hell! So that is why, I have given up. Of course I still wish that I was back at the weight that I was previously after I made going to the gym as part of my life to get fit and healthy. I'm not going to retaliate and eat even more since there won't be any difference if I eat less, anyway.  I a...

Nutrition 101: Popular Dishes

So before I start my post, let me entice you with some delicious food from our country, Singapore. Char Kway Teow Chicken Rice laksa Nasi Lemak These are some of our popular dishes and trust me, they are indeed mouth watering if you can get the best of the best. I have tasted them a long time ago and even though I have eaten the healthier versions except for the char kway teow, of course nothing beats the cooking in their traditional forms. While there are extremists like *ahem* yours truly here who don't eat them anymore, actually you can still indulge in them. If you intend to lose weight or maintain your current healthy weight, consider the tips I have included here below. Recommended number of times you can eat, by the experts? One per fortnight . And no, I don't mean all in one go. The problem with these food, though delicious, is of course the calorie content which is very high. For example, the coconut milk used in laksa and nasi lemak or...

My Personal Health Investment

While people are very much focused on investing money wise for the future, we must not forget to invest in our health either. Honestly, if you think that going veg or going organic is the way to go, it may not be necessarily so for you to live healthy for most of your life. It still comes down to doing what is right for your body and to learn to have a healthy well balanced diet. I know I talked about this many times but it's not coz I'm trying to constantly influence people but it's a way for me to also justify why I'm doing certain things in life so that I will remain focused and not be easily swayed by other people's opinions about me.  If you ask me, you can have your piece of cake and eat it too. I mean you can argue it's fattening coz it's hello, there are triple layers of chocolate in there. I got people telling me, oh isn't chocolate fattening? I mean seriously, say what they want to say and it's not like I snack on huge amounts of chocol...

Healthier 2011

A healthy breakfast is always a good start to a good day. It give you the energy to start you off. If you have a heavy and healthy breakfast, you don't even need to eat much during lunch and it will save up some calories.  I recommend eating two pieces of wholemeal bread with your favourite spread but it gotta be just a layer of spread and not multiple layers even though the peanut butter looks good...haha. This year, I resolve to eat less bread and only stick to eating wholemeal bread for the morning breakfast. Lunch, I have decided to just eat oatmeal which I have been doing so for last week though later, we got invited to eat lunch provided by my workplace. Twice. Sigh, nevermind, I shall rewind the button for this week again. If you can, avoid white bread. Though the naysayers may tell you that eating wholemeal bread is pretty much the same thing too coz it's basically carbs and it still has sugar, tell them back that hey, some good carbs is better than no carbs. Your...

If You Bite It, Write It.

Tyra Banks says that if you bite, you have to write it. Today was the start of me writing a food diary. I wanted to start earlier coz I know it will help me watch what I eat especially if I don't want to write down those food that I would rather not eat. As I began to start writing, I also realised why I may not have lose weight successfully for health reasons. I am being well fed! haha..First, at my workplace where every now and then, people will be kind enough to give us food and trust me, they're not all bad. Infact, just now I ate one piece of chewy jr's cream puff with cheddar cheese on top. That was enough to not let me eat the small muffin cakes my mum packed for me *sigh* but I kept them in the fridge for tomorrow instead. Okay, so that is for work. Nowadays my mum will cook on certain days so it's never just a small pathetic helping but a generous one instead though I will skip on piling up some more once I'm done. Since I know when I go home I am going to ...

Look Sexy Babes!

Do you know that many young women suffer from low self esteem and one of the many reasons is because we like to compare ourselves to other young women and admire how they have such nice facial features, long shiny hair and a great body to boot? Like for me, I just have this erm..massive lump of fats..haha.. Okay this may sound wrong to you but it's actually okay to see other girls and just check out what they wear to have a gauge of what are in trend nowadays though it will be totally wrong to just follow the crowd blindly. Like for myself, I do admire those well dressed girls and I wish I can dress up like them too but I don't become their copycat. We can look good but we must know what are our flaws and what are our favourite body parts and we can dress them up and downplay the not so favourite ones.  But to me, besides avoiding ill fitting clothes, some other tips to help raise your self esteem especially if you're on a bigger side of the spectrum such as like moi...

For the Sake of Vanity

I dont know about you girls but there's always something 'special' about guys who praise you. Of course it's nice to hear them say how nice you are or how funny you are. But it's even nicer if they say that you are pretty, you look good and the latest one (yes, I'm talking about myself here, ha!) that I have such smooth skin. O praise me till I can't come down from the sky! Sometimes girls like me who border on the fence in terms of physical appearance will feel good and even over the moon when they hear such nice praises especially since we don't get them too often :S While I still admire those girls who really really take the much effort to make their 'blah' look to even more 'gorgeous' albeit with a LOT of help, I still think your personality will outshine all the stuffs that you put on your face to hide your imperfections.  But we can always have the best of both worlds..hee. I also need positive affirmations like this to tel...

Introducing Edamame

Drats. I failed in losing weight this month. I was so ambitious in wanting to lose at least 2 kg and I ended up putting on at least 1kg. Pfft..what tough luck and I still refused to blame on the almost 8 pieces of breaded shrimps that I ate about two weeks ago. Anyway, I don't know what exactly went wrong when I didn't eat much. I was even trying to save money by NOT buying snacks when I knock off from work which was also a good way to save on calories. I ate wholemeal bread for both breakfast AND lunch.  But I think I know. Well, from what I describe above, I suppose coz I am so famished by the time I reach home, I tend to eat whatever I can grab though yes I do try to watch out that I don't overeat. It's fine if I just eat that but then nowadays my mum cooks on some days so you can imagine I will eat that on TOP of whatever food I grabbed earlier on.  Still, it's just an assumption. It could also be because I haven't been eating fruits regularly. I refus...
