Supernatural

Wow...I haven't been writing for the past...three days. And that, to me is a very long period of time..hehe. I am still here..still suffering from eye strain as a result of excessively long periods of time of staring into the computer..reading. Yes, while other people are contented with playing games and surfing for information, me..rahayupopz..enjoys reading novels on the net. Riiighhhttt...........I have been reading for three and a half straight days the episode guides for the tv drama Supernatural. So while our fellow Singaporeans and especially the ladies who have been going ga-ga over the STAR of the show from Prison Break and then watching the climatic two part finale, I don't even know what day the show is on. Im contented with CSI:Miami for the past few years. I mean...geez...these people have only caught on the tv bug recently only by word of mouth when they hear these shows are good and I understand if they just gotta watch episode after episode because each one will have an interlink to each other. Thus, the addiction coz you just want to know what happens next. Im not saying shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives and now Prison Break are not good. Infact, they offer a completely different form of genre compared to shows in the 90s although in that period of time, shows like X Files are the rage. But call me stubborn headed or what...but I don't really like to follow the crowd. I just watch what I want to watch and what I feel like watching. So while my other colleagues are just raving about Prison Break and also over the local blogosphere where Wentworth Miller is hot stuff...Im like okay...good for you. If you ask me if this concept is new, actually it is not. Infact even CSI:Miami had something like this Prison Break in the conclusion of Season 2 called Felony Flight where the prisoners broke out of the prison and escaped via a plane after distracting the guards with a brawl at the outdoor court. But of course, nobody would have cared because whenever I mention this show, they can only think about how OLD the leading character is and how infatuated I am over him. Maybe even the producers think like these 'insensitive' people and then in goes Jonathan Togo with his character Ryan Wolfe who sucks eggs. Yah he's a looker alright and in the next half of Season 4 he was mostly showing his arms with strong and well defined biceps partially covered with short short tight sleeves (wait..let me take a breath first..) probably after comments by the female fans on the net on how they wished Togo won't try to hide his muscles anymore. But man....he acts like a sissy..and it didn't help that his character tries to act toughie and arrogant all the time which gets on my nerves at times. Then again, can't blame him. Ryan Wolfe did start off as a sissy....although it was cute at that time.

So on to Prison Break. That guy is just the pillar of strength for the show and if you take him away, you think people want to watch? If he is not the crowd puller, no matter how magnificient the story line is every week, it will be as though the show has no backbone. I mean...pffft....come on....the movie Speed was a good example. Keanu no more...Speed also slowed down. But then again, what has SPEED got to do with a cruise liner?! Keanu was not stupid after all to not wanna act in it. The word lame-O is all over it.

I just think that people should give other shows a chance too because they can be just as good or even better and then you can talk about being a true tv addict fan. Or you can be the alternative version of the tv addict which is the net addict like me. But I don't think you want to especially if you like to be kept in suspense or don't want to spoil your mood knowing who is the killer because you want to be like Sherlock Holmes.

Like I said earlier, my short disappearance from my blog was because I was hooked on reading episode after episode of this new show on tv called Supernatural. It is on every Friday at 10pm replacing The Ghost Whisperer which just ended its first season. Of course both shows are in its second season back in the US of A. I knew the existence of this show for quite a long time already coz I have cable and it is also showing the second season now. But I..err.....only managed to catch it yesterday because Im too scared to watch it no thanks to the episode trailers which are the equivalent of the trailer from a horror flick. I wanted to try watching it before and see how good looking the two brothers are which are only shown in glimpses in the trailers..hehe..rather than die not knowing about it. But my main objective of checking it out on the net is to find out who the heck are these two brothers risking their lives battling these supernatural beings every single time so I did the background check.

However, I found out more than what I wanted to know. It isn't as bad as I think it is because the two leads are quite funny especially when they go about with their good natured bantering while trying to protect each other's behind.

Okay for the benefit of those who want to know what is this show all about apart from Prison Break especially since it has just concluded its season and you have no cute guy to dream about in a make out session with...let me give you some introduction. Their names are Dean and Sam Winchester. They are hunters. No they don't shoot deer. They shoot spiritual beings with guns loaded with rock salt. You heard me right..rock salt. At one time they did have a powerful gun that can kill anything...and I mean anything...but for now let me not spoil the fun. As usual, you don't expect both to be of the same personalities coz it would be duh boring. Dean Winchester is the older and tougher one...who is the more serious hunter following his father's footsteps ever since he witnessed the death of his mother in an unusual way by an entity called the Devil. Yup, no fancy name there. Just Devil who apparently has children as we found out later who are just as evil but not as immuned as him. Don't ask me how he get it on.

And there is Sam Winchester who is four years younger than him and tries to lead a more normal life by attending college and later to Stanford University. He is also trained in hunting since young with his brother but just not as keen probably because when his mother died, he was only a six month old infant. However his chance at being just a regular person was cut short when his brother came with the news that their father was missing during one of his hunting trips. They went on a hunting trip of their own based on the clues given by their father as a possible lead on his whereabouts. After that, when he returned back to his dorm and be normal again, he witnessed his girlfriend being killed in the same manner as his mother when she was pinned up the ceiling by an invisible force, cut open in her mid section and then engulfed in huge flames. But Sam was saved by his brother Dean in time before the dorm was burnt down by the fire.

So as they say, they are fated to be hunters. While hunters of their kind usually hunt alone after avenging ghosts, spirits and even vampires, they hunt together. In a way, it is better because in a way, they are merely human beings and you know how formidable the supernatural forces are. So if one goes down, the other one will be right behind. If you want to talk about who is stronger among them....in the earlier part of the show it is easier to say that the older brother Dean is stronger while Sam often comes across as more sensitive and intellectual because he does his research on the net via his laptop. Dean is more like the typical guy who loves his weapons, classic 50s car, loud rock music and girls. He thinks his little brother is a geek while his brother thinks he is wasting his time over things that pleasure him. Like a vibrating bed and a steam shower in separate episodes. And oh yes..his car...which at times he will talk endearingly with of which Sam would remark 'if you two want to spend the night in a room together, just let me know' which dean would whisper to his car as he was driving 'dont listen to him my love...he just doesn't understand us'. Haha.......cute eh?

But the show picks up its pace later and there is no doubt both of them depend on each other on equal strength and equal knowledge as they are getting closer and closer to the entity that causes their mother's death. Both also reveal another side to themselves especially after knowing of a certain truth on why the devil is after them. Both are also tortured emotionally under different circumstances which bond them closer because they only have each other to depend on. In one episode, it was moving watching how Dean locked himself in a room with his younger brother Sam who might have caught a deadly virus which would make him stark raving mad and go on a killing rampage before dying later. Despite Sam's persuasion to ask Dean to leave but he refused and even tried to make a joke out of it by saying how he wished he had a deck of cards and a poker table to kill the time while waiting for Sam to 'change'. Sam didnt want him to just die like that because his help was still needed to help innocent people from these supernatural beings.

But Dean still refused and made further jokes when Sam said that this was the dumbest thing he had done by locking himself in there which Dean replied that actually it was not...because the dumbest one was with this waitress which he made a face and shuddered. Sam got angry and started crying because he was scared of losing his brother from the virus he contracted rather than dying from it.

I guessed you can say I got hooked not because I love things out of the ordinary like decapitated heads, slit throats and grisly deaths. Eurgh...But it was really nice and sweet seeing how well they got along with each other despite being at each other's throats at times mostly argueing because of personality differences. They were so bonded that if one was in trouble, the other one could sense it and was willing to put aside their differences to save the other. Although Dean obviously had hunting blood in him while Sam felt that he was forced to be in this line by their father, there would be a reversal of roles at certain times when Dean felt sick and tired of this kind of life but Sam would persuade him to carry on if they were meant to save people this way.

Now on tv it is just the beginning so yup expect Dean to treat Sam like a little brother still because they had been separated for quite a long time when Sam moved away to study. You would see Sam annoyed quite often especially when he was called Sammy instead of Sam and Dean played practical jokes on him which Sam would quip that they were not little kids anymore. But Sam would do some catching up too in his own ways to get back at him although Dean still dominated. It will only be much much later that Dean would feel more responsible towards Sam which placed him under immense pressure and Dean's tough exterior would start cracking.
