"National Healthy LifeStyle Walk/Run Event"

Yup..my company recently took part in this National Healthy Lifestyle Walk where we had to either take part in the 5km run or 2.5km walk. Yes..logically speaking...for me of course i'll take e walk lah. At first..it was rather daunting having to go to the Walk as on that day, we were scheduled to do health screening in two different schools. Like wah.....how the heck were we gonna make it on time at 5pm when we barely just left the school like around 4.30pm no thanks to the new driver who was late..and also due to a misunderstanding on the second school's part who thought we would do the eye check at 6.30pm onlie. What the heck?! I am not gonna wait that long! Nor am I gonna work at that hour! Na-uh!!!

We came slightly more than half an hour earlier to the school coz we're pretty bored walking around aimlessly at White Sands. But when we were struggling to open the gate...we didn't see or hear anyone or any children. Then we didn't suspect anything amiss coz thought the children could still be sleeping. Finally when we managed to get in and my colleague went in straight to look for anyone....one of the teachers came down the stairs and asked who we were but acknowledged straight away after knowing our purpose of being there.

However, I thought I heard she said that the children had gone to the library. Then like okay..we would wait lah but I didn't know that my colleague didn't hear me when I told her the whereabouts of the children. It was onlie after the supposed time for the screening that she realised that they didn't come down to the first floor at all. Tot that we were running late already and she went up herself to get the children onlie to be told they went library. However, after explaining to the teacher that we were in a hurry too coz we had this fitness day thing..she called the supervisor who was with the children to be back for the eye check. Thank goodness it took onlie ten minutes before they came back much to the relief of my colleague who was very elated when she heard them from the gate. Jokingly, she said that it was the first time she was happy when she sees the children about to be screened.

Yeah..everything was so done in a hurry onlie to have our plans spoilt later by the late driver..hrmph....I can tell ya he wasn't just working...as he had this Indian guy passenger so in between the time...they went round the island of Singapore...Meanwhile, our other colleague called us and asked when we could make it onlie to hear us remark that we had to take a cab down. Then she was like wah, can take mrt what. But the school was far in and by the time we drop at the mrt and take the train journey down city hall...walk down some more...we wouldn't have made in time..in half an hour?!!! SO..against the wishes of our supervisor who kept insisting that we CAN make it without taking a cab (coz that would mean us claiming the transport money later..what the hell?! He doesn't pay us..!)..we DID take a cab...Ha! take that!

When we reached padang..it was damn packed..and we were all practically standing under the hot evening sun which was still bearable lah compared to the afternoon sun. It was such a huge turn out that we had some difficulties locating our other colleagues. However, we did manage to find our company's banner and awhile later, my other few colleagues from my zone joined us after taking some refreshments from the MILO van. Damn...how could I forget taking some refreshements there!

It was quite a good start thanks to the two deejays who were hosts to the opening ceremony of the event. I saw Jeremy Ratnam from Power 98 for the first time...although he was like so damn far from me. Yah PM Lee Hsien Loong was also there shortly later and he officially started the event by putting the basketball through this funnel like thing. Like wah.........so olympic like...............what the?! Okaylah..still mz give credit to the organisers for such a unique concept. It was followed by a workout organised by the Planet Fitness and it didn't help that we were so far away..and our views were being blocked by the company flags and that the fitness instructors were two small and petite women and one guy who suspiciously looked like a fag...or maybe he is...and man was his bicycle pants tight..coz I swear I could see the 'tightness' from like half the Padang away from him. Too bad I could onlie see him so like it or not....I had to follow his exercise steps...however, it was still difficult as the huge crowd of people infront of me obviously didn't see clearly as well as everything looked like in a mess with people moving all about.

But it was still rather fun just blindly following the crowd..haha....and our constant exasperations that we could not really see. Still...had no intentions of following it to a T..! Fuwah...after acting like a dork for the longest time.....finally the walk was started. But it was so damn disorganised that everyone was walking in various directions that we were practically 'lost' amidst the crowds and flag bearers.

My colleague of whom I had planned to walk with together decided to just go ahead and not care about where our company had gone...she was practically following a crowd behind the Shop N Save banner!!!!..haha..I told her...err..kak z...this is not our company! She just shrugged saying what to do?! It's such a huge crowd..how can we find them? Anyway...who knows the people at Shop N Save can offer us discount coupons? What the?! hahaha...Then shortly infront....we found ourselves behind the crowd following the Cold Storage after which she remarked okay..now we will get discounts from Cold Storage....haha..shameless like me!! Okay, so we didnt get lost for long as later..after our PM made the walk first..our company was somewhere behind but some of our colleagues had already gone off on their own and one of them saw my walking buddy. These two are always teasing each other...and true enough...she remarked playfully to my buddy saying eh? you looked familiar.....like someone I know from HPB (my company) (since we were following right behind the staff of Cold Storage)..which my buddy then said back oh yes! I remember you too! You're from that Mental Hospital infront! (okay..the joke was that somewhere infront was the people with the Institute of Mental banner..) Gawd......my buddy totally rocks....that when I lost her for like a little while..I kinda panicked for awhile..ha!

Anyway it was pretty fast lah maybe coz we took short cuts by accidents? heh heh...can't blame me...blame it on the haphazhard way of route planning and the people from the committee at designated areas who didn't really do much except to direct where to go or stand and watch. But it was quite a breath-taking sight along the marina bay with the vast waters and further up, we could see the merlion and as the sun sets....it was just beautiful. Then, there was also a teenage band performing at the esplanade and a few groups of people who looked at us curiously and also a few youngsters who were thinking that they found the perfect quiet spot to do their work on their laptop...onlie to have US walkers ruining their day..hahahahaha..!

After the walk finally, we went straight to collect our goodies bag and although we knew the Singapore Idols would perform later including Taufik the eventual winner...we didn't want to stay. Hey..I got ten children to cook for and feed at home. So...we waited for awhile to gather the remaining of our colleagues together for some photo taking..and here they are!!

By the way..ignore my stupid look for not wearing my specs that day...

Birthday Gathering & House Hunting

Last week, I celebrated a friend of mine's belated birthday together with another friend at her condo. Sadly, this would be the last time we would hold the celebration at her place because she has finally managed to sell off her condo unit after one year of looking for a buyer. Mostly we used the swimming pool facilities although the two of us didn't swim at all but just chill under the shade. We brought home cooked food and I really appreciated my friend for doing this for us, thinking about how the young son of a friend of us would love the swimming pool for kids. She is so selfless and kind to her friends and I'm truly blessed to have her in my life.  While one was selling off the house, the other friend was on the verge of getting a dream house for herself and her young son. In life, we have many priorities and things to look forward to. Each of our dreams and aspirations are different from one another, like for me, getting a house is not a priority at the moment.  ...

A Reminder to the Living

Recently, we lost our former President when he passed away at the age of 92. He was known to have his heart for the people although those who worked closely with him couldn't actually picture him as that for he was a taskmaster when it came to work. He did his own narratives and do the best that he could as he knew where he came from and wanted to make good out of his life.  He showed that the circumstances that we are in can't stop us from going far in life. We should continue to focus on our actions, has strong dedication and when things get difficult, look at the bigger picture and understand why we are here. Ultimately, we should all be working towards the purpose we have in mind which makes things easier to cope. Thank you for helping the Singaporeans especially those who needed help most. You would always be the people's President. On the other spectrum, a young child had also lost his life. A few of my colleagues witnessed the events which unfolded in front of...
