Selamat Hari Raya!

Im thinking..that there are millions of others writing about the same darn thing which is Hari Raya. If you must know but I don't insist, the meaning of Hari Raya is Celebration Day or Festive Day...depending on which one you think may sound nicer or which one you understand. Festive or not, I am not really keen on such days but if I have to look at it in a microscopic point of view, if there is one consolation to keep me on my toes for such a day is my mum's chocolate chip cookies.

I think right, that Hari Raya isn't such a bad thing. Alright, so it isnt a bad thing in the first place either but you see, the only problem with Hari Raya in our modern times, like Christmas, it has been over-rated. Of course, usually the children will be the one who will feel the most joyous while we adults have to fork out money for the expenditures to keep the house in order, to feed the family with festive treats or oil rich..i mean..delicious traditional dishes that will only make its appearance during the festive month. Okay, at least in the first two days before they are wiped clean by the household and guests.

For some, Hari Raya is a very sorrowful event especially if they have lost their loved ones. My deepest sympathy. My family is still around and even though us family also takes on this 'heck care' attitude on the day itself, the bottom line is that we are still around for each other. That is even better than arranging rows of bottles kuihs or small sweet treats on the table, putting up newly washed or brand new curtains or listening to overplayed Hari Raya songs on the radio. Or anywhere. It is also a day of forgiving because Hari Raya is also a day to start everything afresh and take on a new chapter of the our life. So think of it as something positive..to move on with life..to remember the ones who have passed away..and most importantly, to experience how people in third world countries are going through every single day of their lives; hunger. For those loved ones who are still around, treat them better this time because life is short. God can take our lives anytime..it doesn't matter if you're young or old. When your time is up...ur time is up. So, no matter how over rated Hari Raya is, just remember why it is here in the first place and you will know that it is not a day to show off brand new things or our brand new clothes. It is just a day to remember how lucky we are that we are still able to have food on our table everyday and sharing them with our loved ones.

From rahayupopz..here's wishing you a Selamat Hari Raya

Birthday Gathering & House Hunting

Last week, I celebrated a friend of mine's belated birthday together with another friend at her condo. Sadly, this would be the last time we would hold the celebration at her place because she has finally managed to sell off her condo unit after one year of looking for a buyer. Mostly we used the swimming pool facilities although the two of us didn't swim at all but just chill under the shade. We brought home cooked food and I really appreciated my friend for doing this for us, thinking about how the young son of a friend of us would love the swimming pool for kids. She is so selfless and kind to her friends and I'm truly blessed to have her in my life.  While one was selling off the house, the other friend was on the verge of getting a dream house for herself and her young son. In life, we have many priorities and things to look forward to. Each of our dreams and aspirations are different from one another, like for me, getting a house is not a priority at the moment.  ...

A Reminder to the Living

Recently, we lost our former President when he passed away at the age of 92. He was known to have his heart for the people although those who worked closely with him couldn't actually picture him as that for he was a taskmaster when it came to work. He did his own narratives and do the best that he could as he knew where he came from and wanted to make good out of his life.  He showed that the circumstances that we are in can't stop us from going far in life. We should continue to focus on our actions, has strong dedication and when things get difficult, look at the bigger picture and understand why we are here. Ultimately, we should all be working towards the purpose we have in mind which makes things easier to cope. Thank you for helping the Singaporeans especially those who needed help most. You would always be the people's President. On the other spectrum, a young child had also lost his life. A few of my colleagues witnessed the events which unfolded in front of...
